How would you classify your music?
We have music in all genres in our catalog and while in the past we have been primarily known for the dance and pop work we have done, when we rebranded ourselves last year we wanted to make our sole focus contemporary and modern country with a throwback to the story telling of old school country. We tend to evoke emotion in our pieces and no matter what style of music we create, that level of emotion has always been our signature sound.
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?
We are influenced by so many and since we are primarily known for our writing, after all that is in our name, our influences tend to be more focused on those that are writers rather than performers, but sometimes it can include both. Some of our biggest influences have been Holland/Dozier/Hollad, Paul Simon, Loretta Lynn, Dianne Warren and Gamble and Huff. As you can see the influences are as diverse as the music that we create but each one of these influences have deep roots in the way they write, what they write and what they produce.
What do you want fans to take from your music?
Our work is about the human experience and emotion and I think the biggest take away from all the work we create is the level of feeling and emotion we tend to evoke rather it be heart wrenching like in our most recent release, “I Will Tell Jesus You Said Hello” or fun and carefree like in our piece, “Crazy Things Like That.”
How’s the music scene in your locale?
Covid-19 really has not allowed us to check out as many folks on the local scene as we would like. We are relatively new to the Phoenix area so we spent the early part of our existence here establishing our footprint, but from all that we can see from the Reverb Nation Chart, there is a thriving indie presence here and we are looking forward to being able to see some of the bands that are on the ReverbNation Chart with us.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
The best concert I have been to of late was Diana Ross at the Wynn. It was great seeing a living legend do their thing and she was so glamourous and such the true icon that she is. It was just an excellent experience. What I like best about our own live shows is that it allows the talented people that make up the See Your Shadow Network of Stars, the ability to shine and gives them opportunities they might not have otherwise had.
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?
While I am excited and proud about all the pieces that are included in this new body of work, I think the latest piece, “I Will Tell Jesus You Said Hello” probably stands out as my favorite. I have just loved this piece from the moment it was penned and the way it was brought to life, I couldn’t have asked for a better result.
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
The last year has been quite the journey, but what has been important over the last year especially is the decision to revamp our sound and re-brand the organization. We have totally shifted our focus to country and all the subsets of country. While I am not saying we may never do another dance record because you never know, I think however we will continue to pursue my first love which is country and western and allow our fans to see that side of us.
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
There are so may on this list, but I would love to have some down-home cooking with Loretta Lynn. I think that would just be an experience of a lifetime.
What’s next for you?
We will probably release another single from the body of work, but have yet to decide what will be the next track and some traveling, all the travel from 2020 had to be canceled because of Covid-19 and I had some fantastic trips planned so I would like to get those trips back on the books.
