Bringing her unique Country Music sounds to a new legion of Austin, Tx fans, ELA releases a new surprise single this week.
Thanks for your time today Ela. Please tell us about the new single release and where it was recorded.
Thank you! Surprise! Iris and your beautiful Soul is a relatable indoe pop country tune that is driven by pulsing synth sounds and lyrics that will follow you wherever you go. I co-wrote this single with Matt Parmenter from Ice Cream Factory Studio in Austin, TX, just like we did for Light it Up, but we shifted gears! It’s awesome to be able to genre shift! I don’t have a box to check, in fact I don’t like checking boxes that say “who are you? Country? Pop? Indie?” I know it’s helpful but at this point in my career, I’m not choosing, I’m creating unabashedly and have just begun.
It’s no secret that the music biz is tough and not for the faint of heart. What’s the biggest problem you’ve had to overcome so far?
I think the hardest hurdle for me and lots of independent artists is being heard and finding a foot-hold in a very crowded industry. Creating and channeling my spirit through a contagious beat is my favorite part, but getting my work into the hands of people that can and will put me on the map, seems like floating in a galaxy with no compass.
What do you enjoy most about being a musician?
The thing I love most about being a musician is being able to find rhythmn and lyrics and truly strike a chord with my fans. I’ve been betting phone calls from everyone of every age telling me how relatable and how the lyrics hit home. Whether this song is pop or country it flows across genres and that is success in book!
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I don’t think I can answer that. I feel like the industry is consisently changing and the landscape is putting moe money and power back into the artists hands, but it’s still a numbers game and I wish we could go back to the time where artists didn’t have to make themselves famous and successful before having a chance. Remember when labels created artsits? on the other side, it’s a geat tiem to be an entreprenuer if you have the time and willingness to learn the tools and don’t wait for someone else to do it for you! I’m not doing this for fame, I create for my fans and myself. There’s a beautiful freedom in that!
Is writing music therapeutic for you? And if so, how?
Music is amazing therapy. Creativity is everything!!
