One of the most innovative Synth Performers and Composers, Louis Siciliano, was nominated for a Grammy Award and won the Indieshark Pick of the Week Award.

Louis, thank you for agreeing to speak with us. Can you share with our readers what this project is about?

Louis Siciliano (LS): Thank you for having me here! I am excited to share this moment with all of you. I am currently in the studio working on a very ambitious album that will keep me busy for the next two years. It is a work that will allow me to explore new musical territories and create something truly great. I have the privilege and honor of working in a trio with the fantastic percussionist Giovanni Imparato and the  great master of the tenor saxophone, Umberto Muselli. Two wonderful Artists!

That sounds very interesting! Can you give us a sneak peek of what we can expect from this project?

LS: Certainly! I can tell you that I am pushing the limits of my creativity and experimenting with new sounds and musical languages inspired by MUMEX (Music Multiverse Exploration), the meta-language that I have invented. I want to create an engaging experience that conveys authentic emotions. It is an instrumental album that is dear to my heart, and I hope that my fans can feel all the love and passion that I am putting into it.

Fantastic! We know that there are artists you would like to collaborate with. Is there anyone in particular that you would like to involve in this project?

LS: One of the artists I have always wanted to collaborate with is Roger Waters. I admire his talent and his commitment to conveying powerful messages through music. It would be a dream come true to work with him one day and combine our artistic visions to create something truly unique. As for the new album, which will contain 20 instrumental tracks and is a sort of summary of my artistic journey, I am very focused on the trio and do not foresee any guest appearances, at least for now.

Speaking of your creative process, Louis, what inspires you when you create your music?

LS: My inspiration comes from many different sources. I can be inspired by a personal experience, a book I have read, my studies in cosmology and cognitive theories, or even a simple walk in nature. I always try to capture sincere emotions and convey them through my music. It is a very personal process, and I strive to make each of my instrumental compositions authentic and meaningful.

You mentioned that you are exploring new musical genres in this project. Can you tell us more about this exploration?

LS: Certainly! I have always loved experimenting with different musical styles, and in this project, I am pushing the boundaries even further. I am blending elements of jazz, afro, contemporary music, electronic music, and world music influences into a new captivating Cosmic Sound that someone has described as Quantum Music.

We know that the creative process can be both rewarding and challenging. What are the main challenges you are facing in the studio?

LS: One of the main challenges is finding the balance between experimentation and artistic coherence. I want to explore new musical territories, but at the same time, I like to maintain my identity as a Synthesizer Artist. I work a lot on trance states to bring forth strong intuition during performances, even in the studio. I believe that exploring the right hemisphere of the brain through sound is the most exciting journey of my research.

Let’s talk about the messages and themes you intend to address in this project. What would you like to communicate through your music?

Louis: One of the main messages I want to convey is the importance of staying authentic and true to oneself. Not to be fooled by the marketing of the ephemeral! I want to encourage people to follow their passions and not be afraid to express their individuality. I think it is essential to embrace one’s uniqueness and find the courage to be oneself in a world that often tries to homogenize and financially enslave people. Furthermore, I want to address social and environmental issues. I am very sensitive to issues related to social justice, equality, racism, world peace (a crucial issue for all of us that I feel strongly about), and environmental sustainability. I hope that my music can inspire people to reflect on these themes and take action to create a better world.

It’s fantastic to know that your music also has a social impact. Do you plan to actively engage in causes or organizations that support these themes?

LS: I would like to use my artistic activity to raise awareness and support the causes that are close to my heart, but also to heal people because Music is the most powerful medicine for the Soul, a great therapy that makes the bright side of each of us shine. I firmly believe that music can be a powerful tool to spread peace, respect, compassion, and encourage positive change on our wonderful planet that we are recklessly devastating. I want to actively contribute to making a difference by using my music to inspire and uplift others. I am considering collaborating with organizations that align with my values and support social and environmental causes. Together, we can create a collective impact and work towards a better future.

I:  What will you do after recording this album?

LS: Looking ahead, after completing the recording sessions with this fabulous trio, which will take at least two more years of work, I plan to go on tour with Giovanni Imparato and Umberto Muselli to share our music with audiences around the world. I would like to create an engaging and memorable live show that allows people to have a profound experience during our concerts.

Thank you so much dearest Louis for everything.

LS.: Thank you for the opportunity to talk about this important Album for me. I deeply appreciate the support from Indieshark and its readers. I hope that my music can touch people’s hearts and bring some peace and light into their lives. Thank you again, and see you soon! I would like to thank all my loved ones and the people who support me every day, especially the renowned writer June Di Schino for strongly supporting the creation of this album.

MOSAICS https://indieshark.com/interviews/mosaics/ Sun, 09 Jul 2023 21:00:19 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7222 We are chatting today with the Mosaics. You have a great story of how you launched into music. Can you share with us more about your story?

I grew up in rural Alabama and couldn’t start going to shows until I was able to get out of that area and get a vehicle. By the time most people my age had been going to shows for a decade, I was just getting started. Being put in a position as an outsider who’d only ever known about music from radio stations, concert films I could find at Walmart, and watching fliers get posted online for shows hours away really made me want it more once I got to go and it gave me a better appreciation once I started booking and working on what I wanted shows to look like.

We are so excited for your new music! Tell us about the lead single “Tidal Lock” and how you chose to put this one out first?

It was honestly the only way to fairly release it. Most everything else I’m currently working on right now sounds a lot more like Misery Signals and it’s not fair to this song or the other to compare them so this one will stand alone and the others will be released without it. I’ve wanted to do a song like this for a while so I’m really excited to share it.

What is your favorite part of pursuing music? Writing, recording, touring?

Each has its difficulties, but the part I appreciate the most is something coming together well. If I was to have a favorite part of each, it’d be: booking mixed genre shows to introduce people to new favorite bands or types of bands, layering lines with slant rhymes that blend two different allegories that sit perfectly together, or those last minute changes in a recording take that elevate the entire piece.

What do you do for fun outside of music?

I love to read, play video games, and watch movies; I’m very engaged by stories in general. I also like keeping up with football and baseball, cooking, and taking nature pictures outdoors.

HEATHER THOMAS https://indieshark.com/interviews/heather-thomas/ Fri, 07 Jul 2023 02:41:42 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7219 We are happy to spend some time today with the artist Heather Thomas. Thank you for taking time to talk with us.

We heard you have new music on the way, is that right?  Do you get nervous before you release music or are you more excited?

Both! I’m excited to share the music and that’s probably the driving force for doing all the work and promotion, and I’m also nervous because there are so many things to do and I worry I’ll miss something. But mainly I’m just excited to get new music out!

If you had to – how would you classify your music?

The album has so many different vibes, each song could almost be a different genre, but the first single I’m putting out has a rock Americana sound to me. I sing and play drums at the same time, so people always bring up Levon Helm or Karen Carpenter, although I think it’s mostly because of the singing/drumming combo and not because my songs sound like them!

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Some of the best concerts I’ve been to are my friend’s shows. I have so many amazing bands and singer songwriter friends and I love to see the people I care about making their art. It’s so special and everyone is so good at what they do! What I like the most about playing live is connecting with the other musicians onstage and being fully in the moment. Music is magic and it’s such a trip to get to experience that with other humans. I also love when folks in the audience are inspired by what we do, I love to hear that someone wants to be a drummer or a singer or performer because of something they saw in us.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I have been immersing myself in the Nashville scene and I feel like I’ve learned so much from other drummers around here. The focus on songwriting in this town is very inspiring, and as a drummer I love that I get to help people tell their stories by bringing the beat to life. I’ve made a lot of really cool genuine connections with other musicians out here and I love to see how everyone is growing and meeting the challenges they face. As an artist I’ve been trying to be more consistent about working towards my goal of releasing music and creating content on a more regular basis.

Musically, who are you listening to and enjoying right now?

I have been a big fan of Janelle Monae for a long time and she just put out a new album that I’ve been getting into. I also really love St. Vincent. I always love some Queens of the Stone Age or D’Angelo, those stay in rotation for me.

Final – SILLY! – Question: Which one item of food is always in your refrigerator?

Lately I’ve had kimchi as a staple, also I’ve been making broccoli and kale almost every day, and have been feeling pretty good about eating my greens!

AVVI https://indieshark.com/interviews/avvi/ Sun, 02 Jul 2023 20:22:41 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7205 We are chatting today with Avvi, a Nashville based musician.

Avvi, how did you launch into the music scene?

I debuted as a solo artist in 2021 after taking a break from music. Music has been in my blood since age 5 when I picked up the cello. I studied voice and cello for many years, but I took a step back from it all when I went to law school. However, I felt like a piece of me was missing when I stopped singing. After law school, I was motivated to get back into music and by then, I had built up a collection of songs written over the years that I was finally ready to share with others!

We are so excited for your new music! Tell us about the lead single and how you chose to put this one out first?

Thank you! My recent release, “Top Shelf,” is about being neglected in a relationship that once felt so surreal. It’s a sassy, upbeat lamentation about the death of a relationship with a catch – that person has not fully let you go. They want you in their life, but just not front and center. So you end up feeling tossed aside and used. I didn’t want to write a sad relationship song, though, so I approached writing this from a fun, playful point of view.

I chose “Top Shelf” as the single for my EP Indulge Me because it’s upbeat and fun. It’s an alt-pop rock song with electric guitar, percussive breaks, and stacked vocals. “Top Shelf” is also the very first track on the EP. Indulge Me will be out on all streaming platforms on July 14, 2023!

What is your favorite part of pursuing music? Writing, recording, touring?

My favorite part of creating music is the writing process. There’s something so gratifying about creating a song from scratch. As an introspective thinker, I have always gravitated towards writing when it comes to expressing my emotions, which is why I find songwriting cathartic.

What do you do for fun outside of music?

Outside of music, I love to cook, bake, listen to crime podcasts, workout, and box!

Tell us where we can find your latest music and keep up with you on social media.

You can find my music on all streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. You can also keep up with me on Instagram and Facebook @avvimusic or by visiting me at www.avvi.ink!

TEYQUIL https://indieshark.com/interviews/teyquil-2/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 20:28:43 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7197 We are chatting today with Teyquil. You have a great story of how you launched into music. Can you share with us more about your story?

Hello, so glad to be back. Thanks for having me. Well, my story is pretty straight forward, I was a kid with a dream from a neighborhood of poverty. My parents were supportive and hardworking but we didn’t have much. However, there was love in the house and I always felt safe and seen. My parents are no longer here but I’m sure they’re looking down on me. Music has always been a driving force in our house and I’m lucky to be able to accumulate the abilities to pull it all off. Thanks to my mom and dad and their musical gifts they utilized while here on earth.

We are so excited for your new music! Tell us about the lead single and how you chose to put this one out first?

Well, the single is called “Flashy” and my approach to music was in transition as I wanted to convey more retro sounds, synths, heavy bass and sad boy chords in my music and Flashy was the perfect song to make that attempt in doing so. I’m super proud of it.

What is your favorite part of pursuing music? Writing, recording, touring?

O.M. G! all three honestly. Every process is not only an experience but a learning lesson and I always discover something new with each process I’m working on whether it’s recording, touring, or writing. I love it all!!!

What do you do for fun outside of music?

I love to travel and read when I’m not doing music. It’s so wonderful learning something new and whether I’m travelling or reading, I always manage to discover information I wasn’t aware of and to me, that’s living.

Tell us where we can find your latest music and keep up with you on social media.

CINDER ERNST https://indieshark.com/interviews/cinder-ernst/ Tue, 06 Jun 2023 20:21:54 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7179 Today we are chatting Cinder Ernst! Welcome! Let’s dive right in – tell us all about how you got started and how you ended up where you are now!

Summer of 65. I was 6 years old and heard someone sing and play guitar. I knew I wanted to do that. I got a guitar for my 7th birthday. I learned to play songs I loved by ear, and sing-along with my playing. Playing by ear was a thing back then…there was no Google or YouTube. Seems I spent my whole life singing and playing guitar for friends and family and funerals and weddings. I had a band in NYC in the ’80s, videos made in the MTV era and vinyl released in England.

In 2019 I got diagnosed with a crappy cancer and decided if it wasn’t fun I was no longer interested. Funny how that decision led me back into songwriting and making music. And here I am releasing music, getting ready for a fall 2023 tour and celebrating my songs as they end up on TV shows and movies. I’ll be 63 years old and I feel very current and cool.

When did you first know you wanted to become a musical artist? What was the first song you ever wrote?

When I was 11, I turned down an opportunity for a record deal. If I analyze it now, I felt like me and music was a heart thing and I didn’t want to ruin that. Now, as I am filled with so much wisdom of life, I feel like I can bring my heart forward with my music and touch people.

I wrote my first song when I was 13 years old. I still remember the words and the tune. I was a New Jersey girl singing about going west and being in love. “Colorado, Wyoming, California with her sea. Some place where the grass grows free, someplace my heart wants to be.”

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Michael Franti, hands down. Our vibrations together would be wonderful and powerful.

Between your very first performance and now, how would you say you have grown, as both a musician and an artist?

Referring to the story above, I feel like I am that 11-year-old again, but now I know how to keep my heart in my music and communicate it outwards to people who will love to hear it.

What would you like to be remembered for in your musical career, when all is said and done, when future music lovers look for and covet your music, what would you like them to be looking for and remembering you for?

One of my fans said “All of your songs are an experience, not just something nice to listen to. You make us feel. Personally, if I’m feeling doubts I hear the song and I feel better. Personalized empowerment…that’s what I get from your songs”

SOULCHESS https://indieshark.com/interviews/exclusive-interview-with-soulchess/ Wed, 17 May 2023 19:52:16 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7149 Tell us all about how you got started and how you ended up where you are now!

Soulchess is comprised of 4 members; Chris Goodyear – Guitarist, producer and background vocals, Derrian Childress – Lead singer and dancing extraordinaire, Jameel Aziz- Drums and Jason Fruchey –  Bass. The band has been around since late 2019, however the Soulchess story starts way back in 2012 when Chris posted an ad on ‘Craigslist’ looking for a bassist to form a band. That band soon ran into  ‘life’ related issues before ever really getting off the ground.

Fast forward 6 years and a lot of water under the bridge later, Chris was back at it trying to get a band together. Chris met Jameel at a jam night at someone’s house and asked him to join this newly forming band. This band  included Jason and a lead singer who later would later be kicked out of the unit for unprofessional behavior.Without a singer, Chris, Jason and Jameel now we’re on the lookout for a singer and as fate would have it, Jason and Jameel found Derrian Childress performing at BB Kings as part of Prince Tribute night. Derrian Childress was invited to join the band in November 2019, the Soulchess name was soon coined in early 2020.

When did the band first come together and how did that come to be? What was the first song you ever wrote?

As mentioned , we really became a unit at the very end of 2019.  Our first song we put together as a band is entitled ‘End of the Day’ – it’s a live favourite about yearning to be home with the one you love, but you just can’t get home quick enough.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Chris – Guitarist – “For me I would love to have met John Lennon and done a co-write with him, though I would love to have played bass for Bob Marley (Bass is everything in Reggae!)”
Jameel – Drums – “I would love to meet, play a gig with, co-write a song with, have dinner, and hang with Anita Baker. She seems like such an amazing person and creative. Plus everybody needs a black auntie figure in their life lol.

Her compositions have touched my soul on an emotional and spiritual level since I was a child. Just hearing her talk about stories of being on the road or listening to how she creates her masterpieces would be a lovely experience”

Derrian – Lead Vocals  – “I would have loved to meet Michael Jackson. It would have been great to converse, hang out, be in the studio with him, and fully experience the multi-hyphenate creative that he truly was. Michael was such a bright individual, and it would have been an honor to be in the presence of the real him”

Jason  – bass – “I think for me it would also be John Lennon. He seemed like he’d be fun to hang out with, write music then go out for a drink with him. He seemed like he’s be fun to be around”

Between your very first performance and now, how would you say the band has grown, as both a musicians and a band?

Our set has grown massively from a first show set of 30 min of all originals to a 4 hour long behemoth of a set of originals and covers. This grew out of necessity; to get shows that paid well around Nashville, you have to have a set that can run 4 hours nonstop. It’s been challenging given the fact that we have seldom slow songs in our set and we just don’t do songs where we are not all performing (so no options for a few members going off and taking a break). We have perfected the set too, to see what songs go down well and which don’t get the crowd going as much. Putting the band through this has ‘toughened us up’ musically speaking. We can now sprint through 2 hours of high energy music and it feels like a breeze!

Musically and performance wise, things have evolved too. Our performances are more coordinated even down to dance moves! Having spent the last few years playing together, we just know what each other are gonna do at certain points in songs. We have learned to rest into our sound as being defined by our unique qualities we bring versus being defined by a certain genre. Our production skills have come on, we are more aware of what elements to focus on to make a song a better mix and achieve the tones we hear in our heads.

What would you like to be remembered for in your musical career, when all is said and done, when future music lovers look for and covet your music, what would you like them to be looking for and remembering you for?

Jameel:  “I want people to remember that I play with as much passion as I have love for the people around me. I thoroughly enjoy playing music and making music with my friends and family and I want people to remember that and feel it themselves through the music I am a part of, whether they are watching me live or listening to a song on an album. I am in a place of peace, love, and joy when I’m playing music.”

Derrian: “When all is said and done, I would like to be remembered as an artist and performer who gave with every fiber of my being, shared my gifts with true purpose, and inspired others to do the same”

Jason: “I’d like to be remembered for creating interesting music that made people feel something and that my bass lines were interesting and not just a typical rhythm filler”
Chris: “I want our music to be remembered for being pioneering through musical fusions and not limited to normal musical boxes. I want to make music that creates an atmosphere, that paints pictures in sound and forms the sound track in someone’s life. I guess I want to be remembered for a guitar tone/style of playing that you can feel and solo’s so melodic you can sing.

OSMUNDA MUSIC https://indieshark.com/interviews/osmunda-music-2/ Fri, 28 Apr 2023 18:21:50 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7117 Big welcome to Osmunda Music. We have been LOVING your latest singles. Why did you lead with ‘Imagine You’ as the lead single?

I wanted to test the waters with a song that is not going to be on the album. This song is co-written, but the melody is mine, so I didn’t think it fit with the album, but I still liked the song so much.

We know everyone’s journey is different. What can you share with us about yours?

My journey is a process of taking everything moment by moment and aiming towards your dreams. It’s a marathon, not a sprint! The journey is about showing up to do what you love even when you have your off days. My vision of owning a record studio has come true. Dreams do come true! It’s exciting to be able to wake up in the morning & know that I get to go to a place to be creative and make my dreams come true.

You have a really unique sound – how did you know you needed to share your gift of music with others?

I’ve always wanted to connect to people, so channeling the music inside me to connect to others is what I’ve always subconsciously done. I’ve never wanted to copy anybody else & prefer to naturally embody my own sound.

Do you have plans for more music this year? Can you give us any inside scoop?

Yes, I’m releasing an album in August and a few singles between then, so stay tuned! I commit 2-3 days of my week to fully focus on my music, so I’m definitely coming out with a lot of material. My goal for this year is to make more music and to start finding moments where I can perform live in Los Angeles. There’s nothing like the connection that comes with a live performance.

If we were riding in the car with you – what would we hear coming through the speakers?

Sometimes I like listening to music that is instrumental because I can get daydreamy and lost without getting pulled into somebody’s world. Artists like Khruangbin, Arlo Parks, Liana Flores, Dumbo Gets Mad,  or Tommy Guerrero are always playing on my playlists and inspiring me! Lhasa De Sela – con toda palabra is also a favorite of mine!

Where can we keep up with the latest on all you have going on and new releases?

OSMUNDA MUSIC https://indieshark.com/interviews/osmunda-music/ Tue, 21 Mar 2023 20:43:21 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=7076 Tell us all about how you got started and how you ended up where you are now!

Started off playing guitar & singing when little & started again after moving to LA. Backpacked & traveled the world for 2 years and made my first album. Came back to LA and was given the opportunity to support myself & follow my passion through a job at Warner bros. Since, I fully immersed myself in the art. Space Babies, 3 albums, a bunch of singles & covers. 3 albums out with Osmunda Music, 4th album coming August 18th 2023. Also releasing a children’s album for yoga soon via Osmunda Music.

Husband & I made a recording studio in Venice called Earthstar Creation Studio & most recently founded a music non-profit foundation called Pandion Music Foundation (PMF). Working with a lot of sync licensing and co-writers & co-producers. Finding it fulfilling.

When did you first know you wanted to become a musical artist? What was the first song you ever wrote?

First song I ever wrote is called Munda, written in 1998, recorded in 2001, released in 2019. I knew I wanted to be an artist when I was little. I’ve always wanted to keep doing music more than I wanted to be a musician. Inspired by my mom who would play a lot of cool music from the 60s & 70s on cleaning days.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Joni Mitchell, would love to play a gig, co-write, have dinner, and drink with her!

Between your very first performance and now, how would you say you have grown, as both a musician and an artist?

I see a live performance as a personal experience to share with listeners, it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as there’s heart and soul into it. When I was younger I might have been more nervous, but I feel a lot more comfortable performing live.

What would you like to be remembered for in your musical career, when all is said and done, when future music lovers look for and covet your music, what would you like them to be looking for and remembering you for?

That my spirit & my soul shines through the songs and lyrics. My messaging in my music has a positive effect on people. They can enjoy the music endlessly.

You have a single coming out on 2/24. So exciting! It is titled “Imagine You” What can you tell us about it? What can we expect when we hear it?

Imagine You came out on 2/24, and since its release, it’s gotten over 700 streams & has already made it on a few awesome playlists. I’m excited about this song because it’s a little different than some of the other songs I’ve made and is good for ads/licensing.

GLADWYN GRAHAM https://indieshark.com/interviews/exclusive-interview-with-gladwyn-graham/ Fri, 16 Dec 2022 22:23:49 +0000 https://indieshark.com/?p=6836 Welcome to Gladwyn Graham! Thank you for your time. Let’s jump right in. Tell us more about your story. Where you are from how you got to where you are now!

I was born and brought up in Dubai to Indian parents and moved to Nashville, TN to go to Blackbird Academy to study Audio Engineering specialising in the studio side of things. I have lived here ever since.

How would you say where you grew up and where you are from has influenced your music?

My melodies, arrangement and production style have all been influenced by the cultures I have been exposed to from the places I lived in and how I was brought up at home. My dad used to take me to the studio whenever he was a part of a session and music was a part of my life from a very young age.

Do you play any instruments? If so, tell us more. If not – any you would like to learn?

Yes I do. I started playing the drums when I was 6 and as I entered my teenage years, I started learning the keys, guitars and a multitude of other instruments.

You have a new single out titled “Perfect” , such a great song! How do you choose the collaborator that you did?

Thank you! Prithvi said that he wanted to work on an EDM song with me and I took one of the first drafts that was made of ‘Perfect’ that I worked on with Ananya Murali to him. I’ve known Prithvi since I was in high school and the same with Ananya.

What can fans that haven’t heard it expect to hear?

A great story, emotional experience and a drop that hits you in the right places.

What is the best career advice you have been given? Would you share it with us?

Be humble. People would much rather work with somebody who is willing to learn and ready to work rather than someone who comes in with a braggadocious attitude.

Where can fans find you online and follow along?
